Preseason 2007 - The Red Pill
If you plan to be an athlete for 6 months, you should do plenty of preparation work. Sitting in a cubicle does not prepare you well for hammering up hills in a peloton. Living the Office Space lifestyle allowed me to save money for the trip, but I ended that short but valuable period of life in late December. Have I gotten on the train, so to speak? Not quite, but I'm on my way. I still got in some skiing, some partying, and some good food (living at home has some amazing perks).
Now I have been doing a few double each week, putting in about 15 hours a week on the bike plus a few hours of elliptical, lots of situps -- the works. When I get there, my goal is to not be embarrassed at the shape I'm in. I had been training off and on all fall: lots of time watching movies in the basement while riding the trainer, several really lonely 4 hour rides in the rain, etc.
But the weather has improved and I've been bringing a camera along every once and a while just for the heck of it. I plan to put a link to an online album and a link to a place for videos. We'll see.
So here begins the adventure. Two weeks and I'm off. I suppose I'm taking the red pill - and seeing just how deep this rabbit hole goes.
